Advertising for zoos isn’t easy. Either you want to come see and smell some exotic animals or you don’t. Sometimes, a special edition might drum up interest. A panda may have a cub that draws in the masses. If not, the advertisers have to go out on a limb. That’s the impetus behind these these Amazon style reviews, which have become a viral hit.
“Overall very good first impressions. Sturdy built, totally winter-ready and waterproof. Only comes in brown but that’s actually a plus for me.”
“This comical Amazon-style review of an otter tweeted by the Oregon Zoo using the hashtag #rateaspecies quickly kicked off a trend,” The Daily Mail writes, “with dozens of other animals receiving humorous assessments on Twitter.”
“YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. This stylish little unit is amazing. Sound quality A+. No distortion at full volume but bass is a little weak. Top rotates which is a plus.”
“Keeps bugs off even when wet.”
The lion is “MOSTLY HARMLESS.”
The baby penguin could have been a fake. It wasn’t, though. A good buy.
The turtle is “not the fastest….” Yet it seems to be durable.
The others got in on the game. “Color not as shown (not even CLOSE!!!), supposed to be predator but just sits on heated rock all day and lets turtles walk all over him (if ambush predators are so different you should tell people) also missing one toe???”
The Monterey Bay Aquarium chimed in, too. “Love that it fits any space. Adjustable color to match your mood/location. Extremely grippy base. Ink included, but stylus sold separate if you need that go with the squid sizes. Note: Don’t pair with another or they stop working.”
