Several pipe bombs were recently sent anonymously to addresses associated with prominent Democrats from around the country, including former president Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Each of the packages was intercepted before they reached their targets, though it is not clear whether others may be in transit. However, images and x-rays of the devices have begun to circulate.

ABC News managed to obtain photos and x-rays that provide a detailed look into how the explosive devices were constructed.

The pictures show a fairly crude device constructed of PVC piping and attached to a widely available digital clock. The images also show a battery and wiring that would initiate an explosion.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, the pipe bombs included sulfur as the explosive component as well as shards of glass that would have acted as shrapnel had the devices detonated.

Two explosive devices were intercepted early on Wednesday. On was en route to Obama’s home in Washington DC while another was heading to the Chappaqua, New York, home of Hillary Clinton.

Just a short time later, a third device was found in the Time Warner Center mailroom in New York City that was addressed to John Brennan, the former CIA director.

Each of the discovered packages listed the address of former DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz as the return address.

Soon, a hashtag, #MAGABomber, began appearing on social media, with some users suggesting that the Trump administration is to blame for the attempted act of terrorism.

“I promise you it will not be long until a crowd of people cheer at a Trump rally for the #MAGABomber,” said one Twitter user.

Another wrote, “@realDonaldTrump you and your hateful rhetoric are responsible for the #MAGAbomber.”

Trump released a statement regarding the incidents, saying, “I just want to tell you that in these times, we have to unify… we have to come together and send one very clear, strong, unmistakable message that acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America.”

“The safety of the American people is my highest and absolute priority,” he continued. “I’ve just concluded a briefing with the FBI, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and the US Secret Service.”

“As we speak, the packages are being inspected by top explosive experts and a major federal investigation is now underway,” Trump added.

“The full weight of our government is being deployed to conduct this investigation and bring those responsible for these despicable acts to justice.”
