A freelance writer made a controversial statement on Twitter, saying he would rather have his daughter date a member of the infamous MS-13 gang that “a member of the Republican Party.” The tweet, made by Rob Rousseau, was addressed by Patrick Ryder, a police commissioner who has witnessed the violence perpetrated by MS-13 first hand.

“You want the best for your children, not the worst,” said Ryder, the police commissioner in Nassau County, according to a report by Fox News.

“MS-13’s motto: Kill, rape control,” he continued. “That’s what you want dating your daughter?”

“I would love for [Rosseau] to sit down and speak with the victims’ families,” Ryder added. “Tell them that he would rather have an MS-13 [member] date his daughter.”

Rousseau posted the tweet just one day after President Donald Trump described members of the MS-13 gang as “animals” during a White House roundtable.

“You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are,” said Trump. “These aren’t people, these are animals, and we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before.”

Rousseau admitted on Twitter that he doesn’t actually have a daughter after social media users called his remarks into question.

After clarifying that he doesn’t have a daughter, the comments kept coming, including one that stated, “Do us all a favor: NEVER have children! You are too deranged to breed.”

Others questioned whether Rousseau’s disdain for Republicans would be greater than his “love” for his theoretical daughter.

Some Twitter users came to Rousseau’s defense, stating that his post was a “joke.” Others were wondering, based on how he phrased the tweet, if Rousseau was suggesting that MS-13 members were Democrats.

A few comments suggested that Rousseau made the statement purely for attention while recommending that he “grow up.”

The backlash caused by his tweet lead Rousseau to post that he was going to “close up the old DMs for now.”
