Everybody is always looking for a new and “innovative” way of improving their health. There have been health crazes that seemingly take over the world only to be replaced a week later by another health craze that claims better results in fewer steps. One woman took the health craze to a whole other level, which, incidentally, almost killed her.
An unnamed 51-year-old Chinese woman found herself in a life-threatening situation after she injected herself with 20 different types of fruits in an effort of being “more healthy.”
According to BBC, the woman sustained damage to her kidney, liver, heart and lungs, which resulted in her staying in Affiliated Hospital of Xiangnan University in Hunan, China, for five days.
The fruits reportedly made her skin begin to itch and her temperature rose to unsafe levels. Even after all these concerning signs, the women did nothing about it until her husband came home and took her to the hospital on Feb. 22.
Thankfully, doctors were able to use antibiotics and dialysis to clean her blood. “I had thought fresh fruits were very nutritious and it would not do me harm by injecting them into my body,” the woman said, according to Singapore-based outlet Asia One. “I had no idea that would get me into such trouble.”
The same news outlet claimed the woman did this all on a whim as she didn’t like to workout but still wanted the same results. Users on the Chinese social media site “Weibo” were torn on what the woman did with some donning the hashtag #OldWomanPutsJuiceIntoVeins.
While some stated the obvious that she made a stupid decision, others commended her on looking for an easier way to be healthy. “She who knows not fears! I admire her courage as well as her intelligence!” one Weibo user wrote.
Another user added: “Luckily her husband knows better. I am happy she survived.” In light of this incident, the question must be asked: Whatever happened to simply working out and eating well to obtain the desired results?
