One woman didn’t take kindly to being fat-shamed by her boyfriend while they were out shopping on Wednesday. According to a witness, the woman’s boyfriend stopped her from purchasing some ice cream, saying that she was already overweight. The woman then proceeded to attack her boyfriend, stabbing him with a pair of scissors.
The incident took place in Zhumadian, a city in central China’s Henan Province, according to a report by the Daily Mail. While the couple was shopping, the woman – identified only by her last name, Wang – began arguing with her boyfriend – identified only by his surname, Zhang – after he wouldn’t let her buy ice cream.
A witness stated that Zhang told Wang that she didn’t need the treat because she was overweight, a statement that sparked an argument.
As the pair exchanged words, Wang became enraged. She went to a nearby store and purchased a pair of scissors. Then, Wang stabbed Zhang with the newly-acquired makeshift weapon. It isn’t clear at this time how many blows Wang delivered with the scissors.
The authorities were contacted after the assault occurred. Zhang was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. However, doctors were unable to repair the damage and save Zhang, and he died while in the hospital.
According to reports, the couple had only been dating for about 20 days.
Video footage was released that appeared to show Wang standing next to Zhang after the attack took place. Zhang is lying on his back, and blood is visible around Zhang’s chest and the ground beneath him.
The incident is being investigated by Zhumadian police. Wang was taken into custody.
