A woman was called out on Facebook after images of her returning a Christmas tree to a Costco store on January 4 emerged on the social media platform. A man who witnessed the event snapped photos of the incident, sharing them online with the comment, “I can’t make this up,” and claiming the woman “has no conscience.”
The incident unfolded at a Costco store in Los Angeles last week, with the woman requesting a refund for her Christmas tree since it had died after spending weeks in her home.
As reported by the Daily Mail, a Facebook user, posting under the name Scott Bentley, called out the woman.
He wrote, “Yesterday Jan. 4 2018 at my Costco, Shame on Costco, Shame on this loser, but it’s going to start costing all of us when the word gets out…”
Bentley targeted Costco in his remarks because the store did give the woman a refund after she “totally nonchalant” wanted to return the tree “because it is dead.”
“I saw the whole thing go down with my own two eyes about 30 minutes ago,” said Bentley. “If I didn’t see it, I wouldn’t believe that someone had so little more values or lack of conscious.”
Bentley also referred to the incident as “heartbreaking,” in regards to thinking “she may have needed that money so much, she lost all self respect and dignity for it.”
He did admit, “I wish I hadn’t felt so offended initially, otherwise I would have tried to talk to her to find out what was going on. Makes me sad and sorry.”
He did say that, though she did receive a refund, “it was questioned.” Costco “verified” the purchase and, according to Bentley, the woman “was shammed to a small degree.”
Bentley added, “But I don’t think it fazed her because she has no conscious.”
Costco is known for its fairly generous refund policies based on guaranteeing shopper’s satisfaction “on every product we sell,” though restrictions may apply depending on the particular item purchased. There are no specific caveats regarding Christmas trees that would bar someone from attempting to get a refund.
