Over the weekend, an unidentified woman decided to get a closer look at a lion. She climbed over a safety barricade surrounding the animal’s enclosure at the zoo, stepping inside. Once passed the fence, the woman taunts the animal, waving her hands and dancing in front of him, all while a bystander filmed the encounter.

The incident occurred at the Bronx Zoo in New York, and footage of the encounter made its way onto Instagram.
The woman looked directly at the lion, “staring it in the eye,” according to a report by the Daily Mail. As the woman moved into the enclosure, the big cat seemed curious about her.
After a moment, the woman starts waving at the lion. She even dances while inside the enclosure, taunting the animal.
As the woman appears to try and get the big cat’s attention, a bystander said, “She shouldn’t be doing that.”
Another asks, “Is someone with her?”
While what the woman did was certainly risky, there was a large concrete moat between her and the big cat, keeping her out of immediate danger.
The Bronx Zoo did confirm that the incident occurred, stating, “This action was a serious violation and unlawful trespass that could have resulted in serious injury or death.”
“Barriers and rules are in place to keep both visitors, staff and animals safe,” the zoo added.
“We have a zero tolerance policy on trespass and violation of barriers.”

Those who watched the video online seemed unimpressed by the woman.
“I hope she goes right to jail!” wrote one commenter. “This is stupid!”
“Even the lion knows she is an idiot,” said another.
One person wasn’t overly concerned about the woman, and was, instead, thankful that the lion didn’t suffer any consequences.
“Thankfully the Lion didn’t have to be hurt for her ignorance,” said the commenter.
It isn’t clear if any action has or will be taken against the woman for her actions.
