The saying “Hell has no fury like a woman scorned” would appear true after a 24-year-old woman used her boyfriend’s credit card without his knowledge to tip a server $5,000. Her reason? He wouldn’t buy her a plane ticket back home. Whatever the reason, it’s unclear if the server who received the money will be allowed to keep it.
It’s probably no surprise that this story takes place in Florida — Clearwater to be exact. The craziest stories seem to come out of that state.
According to Fox News, while on vacation in Florida, Serina Wolfe and her boyfriend, Michael Crane, had a heated exchange of words after he told her he would not pay for her plane ticket back to Buffalo, New York.
Wolfe was arrested and charged with grand theft after she left a $5,000 tip for a $55 meal she ate on that vacation. The extravagant tip was left for a waitress at the Clear Sky Café. The restaurant acknowledges that they have already paid out the tips for the week including the $5000 tip.
Originally, Crane thought his card’s information had been stolen and he put a temporary hold on it as a precaution. But when Wolfe and her boyfriend had another argument over money, he figured out it was his girlfriend’s doing all along.
Yahoo reported Crane had confronted Wolfe about the credit card charge, and while she initially denied any involvement, she later came clean acknowledging that she left the excessively large tip using his card.
Ryan, the waitress who received the tip, was interviewed by a local news outlet. She explained that she had been going through a difficult time in life after she had to put her dog down. She explained that the $5,000 tip put a smile on her face, and she would use it to pay bills.
It’s currently unclear if Ryan will be allowed to keep the large funds, or if she will have to repay the money that she has already spent.
Well, that’s one way to get your boyfriend’s attention. But her manuever may end up costing Wolfe a lot more than her boyfriend.
