Woman Arrested in Front of Children for Calling a Transgender Woman a Man on Social Media

The politics of gender identity keep getting more complicated. This story from the UK highlights some of the draconian measures being taken to ensure political correctness. A mother referred to a transgender woman as a man. Police then arrested her in front of her kids. She was incarcerated for seven hours before she was released.

“Three officers detained Kate Scottow at her home before quizzing her at a police station about an argument with an activist on Twitter over so-called ‘deadnaming’,” Daily Mail writes.

Scottow, 38, is from Hitchin, Hertfordshie. As would be expected during an arrest, Scottow went through a barrage of inconvenience. In addition to being photographed and fingerprinted, she also had to submit DNA. The police seized both her phone and laptop.

The arrest took place on December 1, 2018, and she’s not received her phone or computer back.

She also received a court order that bans her from calling the transgender woman a man.

“I was arrested in my home by three officers,” she wrote online, “with my autistic ten-year-old daughter and breastfed 20-month-old son present.”

“I was then detained for seven hours in a cell with no sanitary products (which I said I needed) before being interviewed then later released under investigation … I was arrested for harassment and malicious communications because I called someone out and misgendered them on Twitter.”

The Hertfordshire Police are not denying the arrest. “We take all reports of malicious communication seriously,” they acknowledged.

The news is making waves in Britain. Graham Linehan, received a verbal harassment warning by West Yorkshire Police for calling Stephanie Hayden “by her previous names and pronouns on Twitter.”

It was Hayden who landed Scottow in jail. “High Court papers obtained by The Mail on Sunday detail how Mrs Scottow is accused of a ‘campaign of targeted harassment’ against Miss Hayden, allegedly motivated by her ‘status as a transgender woman’.”

During a debate about gender identity, Scottow is accused of using an alias to “harass, defame, and publish derogatory and defamatory tweets” about Hayden. Scottow supposedly called Hayden¬† “racist, xenophobic and a crook” and said Hayden was a “fake lawyer.”

Scottow denies the harassment charges. She says she has a “genuine and reasonable belief” that humans “cannot practically speaking change sex.”

The case seems to be headed to court, so there’s likely more to this story.
