Paddock, aged 64, lived in Mesquite, Nevada, about an hour outside of Las Vegas. There’s no obvious criminal record. He owned a home valued at $400,000 in a retirement community.
Paddock opened fire on a country music festival from a hotel room high above the concert venue. He was had at least 10 firearms in the room, and it is believed that he did most of the damage with some sort of automatic rifle. The gunfire lasted for minutes. After the concert-goers recognized the danger, many stampeded. It is unclear how many of the injured are a direct result of gunfire.
Stephen Paddock was found dead inside his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort. Paddock had been in the hotel since September 28. Paddock had hunting and fishing licenses was a licensed pilot, too. The Daily Mail is reporting that Paddock “may have worked at Lockheed Martin as an auditor….”
Paddock is believed to have lived in Mesquite with 62-year-old Marilou Danley. There are conflicting reports about Danley. She has reportedly been located outside the country. Other reports, which may not be conflicting, say Danley is in custody and is being questioned.
Eric Paddock, the gunman’s brother, released a statement. “We know absolutely nothing, this is just, we are dumbfounded,” Eric said. “We have absolutely no idea. Our condolences go to the victims and all their families.”
Paddock’s mother, aged 90, is said to be in shock.
