Supreet Kaur was going through her normal Saturday reporting the news when a breaking news story came in. Nothing unusual about that until she realized one of the victims was her husband.
The 28-year-old mother of one was able to keep her composure and actually read the incoming information for 10 minutes before going to a commercial break. That’s when she broke down into tears.
The report didn’t divulge the names of the victims in the accident, but she was able to link together that her husband, Harshad Kawade, and three of his friends were in the car involved in the accident.
Colleagues of Kaur were in awe that she was able to maintain her calm demeanor as she read the death of her child’s father.
An editor of the news station commended her, stating, “It speaks volumes about her sense of duty and professionalism that she continued and kept calm for another 10 minutes,” he said. “The moment the cameras were off she began calling her relatives and broke down. She left for the accident site after that.”
Kaur has worked in the industry for nine years and has a large following, according to the editor who spoke to Indian Express.
Coworkers and followers on social media were supportive and many of them praised her for her professionalism.
“She is an extremely brave lady. We are proud of her as an anchor, but what happened today has left us in shock,” one co-worker said.
Kaur and Harshad Kawade had been married for 18 months.
