When a woman headed out for her morning jog at 6:00am on Friday, she was allegedly groped by a young male. Instead of simply being a victim, she touched him right back. But, instead of using her hands to defend herself as he continued to try and grab her, she took out a knife and stabbed the perpetrator multiple times.
As reported by Fox News, the woman, whose name has not been released, spoke with Salt Lake City police and described the alleged groper as a young male, between the ages of 15 and 30. She stated the man groped her from behind and attempted to grab her. She responded by taking out a knife she had on her and stabbed him a few times.
The man reportedly fled the scene and attempted to reach a nearby bus stop. The woman pursued him initially, but then stop to return home and report the incident to local authorities.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Greg Wilking, a spokesman for the Salt Lake City Police Department, stated that the suspect had been wearing a backpack and was dressed in a gray sweatshirt. He also said the man might have stab wounds on his “arms, chest and legs.”
“We certainly don’t want to have another incident like this, and we would like to get this person identified and off the street,” Wilking added.
Police took the knife the woman used to stab the suspect in hopes of testing it for DNA.
“We’re not sure if it will lead to somebody in the system,” said Wilking. “There’s a good chance, if this person is under the age of 18, they may not have their DNA on file. We’re not going to wait on DNA alone.”
Wilking referred to the woman as “prepared” and encouraged others to pay attention to their surroundings when out alone.
“Everybody who is out at night or in the dark hours, they should be prepared and aware of their surroundings.” Wilking continued, “She took steps to be prepared. And, on top of it, she fought back. We’re happy that it turned out well for her.”
Wilking added, “She wants this guy apprehended.”
