As word spread about a growing group of Central American migrants making their way toward the southern border of The United States, President Trump returned to his familiar stance on illegal immigration. This time, though, Trump is calling on Mexico to stop the migrants. It they don’t, he says he’ll use the U.S. military to close the border.

“The stern, tweeted warning came as a group of more than 4,000 travels north through Mexico in the hope of reaching the United States, despite having no visas or other legal papers to enter,” The Daily Mail writes.

“I am watching the Democrat Party led (because they want Open Borders and existing weak laws) assault on our country by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from entering Mexico to U.S…..”

“….In addition to stopping all payments to these countries, which seem to have almost no control over their population, I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught – and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!..”

“….The assault on our country at our Southern Border, including the Criminal elements and DRUGS pouring in, is far more important to me, as President, than Trade or the USMCA. Hopefully Mexico will stop this onslaught at their Northern Border. All Democrats fault for weak laws!”

While he’s threatening financial consequences and possible mobilization of the military, he’s also sending out his diplomatic team to have direct talks. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be in Mexico on Friday to make Trump’s point in person.

The Department of Homeland Security is also taking aim at politicians.

“Our nation faces a dangerous crisis on the border that threatens American communities,” DHS spokesperson Katie Waldman wrote in a statement. “Congress refuses to close catch-and-release loopholes in the law that would allow authorities to detain and remove family units safely and expeditiously. While we do not have official numbers to report at this time, current trends indicate enforcement efforts against single adults entering illegally have been hugely successful.”

“However, the removal of actual family units, or those posing as family units, has been made virtually impossible by Congressional inaction – which will most likely result in record numbers of families arriving illegally in the United States this year. At the direction of the President, DHS is continuing to examine all options to secure the border and keep American communities safe, including working with our partners in Central America and Mexico.”
