Based on the 24/7 nature of much of the work, many active duty service members and law enforcement professionals have to be on the clock during the holidays, which can be difficult on them and their families. But, President Donald Trump decided he wanted to do something about it, coming out of pocket to make it happen.
Military members and law enforcement personnel responsible for keeping Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence secure over the Christmas season received a gift that the president paid for himself: hundreds of free meals.
Members of the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, US Secret Service, and White House Military Office who worked during Christmas had access to “a full Christmas spread” between the hours of 1:00pm and 7:00pm local time, ensuring every shift could benefit from the privately paid for food.
The information was chronicled by Noah Gray of CNN, as reported by the Independent Journal Review, who shared details on Twitter.
Trump was with his family at the Mar-a-Lago resort on Christmas day, which meant security was required during his stay.
According to Gray, the meals included “Turkey & dessert buffet.”
Gray got the information from a “source,” so details about the privately funded “feast” weren’t touted by Trump, who instead seemingly remained fairly quiet about his decision to provide the cash necessary to make the event possible.
Trump did take to Twitter to share a message, saying, “I hope everyone is having a great Christmas, then tomorrow it’s back to work in order to Make America Great Again (which is happening faster than anyone anticipated)!”
