When done properly, military static line parachuting can be reasonably safe. However, even the smallest mistakes can lead to a bumbling catastrophe, and the results can be fatal, in the worst of circumstances. One group of paratroopers inadvertently ended up as a prime example of how things can go terribly wrong.

Video of the terrible paratroopers began circulating this week, according to a report by The Aviationist. In the clip, you can see footage from the Flintlock 2019 military exercise, which took place in the Sahel region of Africa.
In the video, you can see an example of nearly every possible parachuting misstep, short of failing to hook up the static line.
One of the paratroopers looks as if he is trying to do a side-door exit. The only issue is, he’s at the tailgate. This is particularly strange since leaving from the rear of the aircraft is actually easier.
While his exit was mostly safe, the deployment of his parachute might not have been ideal.
A few of the guys make reasonable exits as well. However, one paratrooper isn’t so lucky.
He ultimately faceplants on the exit ramp. Whether it is because he was hesitant to jump or happened to trip on the way out isn’t exactly clear. But, his belly flop onto the floor is especially dangerous, as landing on the reserve chute – which is positioned on the person’s check – could lead it to deploy accidentally.
If the reserve parachute went off and the main chute also deployed, the two could become entangled, leading to a potentially fatal situation, particularly for low altitude jumps where there is limited time to correct the malfunction before impact.
