On Wednesday, Tim Tebow, the former NFL quarterback, proposed to his girlfriend, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, and she said yes. The proposal took place around sunset at Tebow’s family farm in front of an arbor and bench that Tebow had installed for the event. The pair discussed their relationship quietly for a few moments before Tebow dropped to one knee.

“Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, I love you,” said Tebow, 31, according to a report by People. “Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, will you marry me?”

Nel-Peters said “yes,” and Tebow slid a 7.25-carat ring onto your finger, saying, “This ring is internally flawless, just like you.”

After Nel-Peters agreed to marry him, Tebow revealed another surprise. Matthew Mole, a South African singer, stepped out from behind a bale of hay that was on the Jacksonville, Florida farm, serenading the couple with one of their favorite songs, “The Wedding Song.”

Tebow had also secretly flown in Nel-Peters family and closest friends from South Africa, where she is from. His parents, siblings, and friends were also in attendance, watching the event from a distance to remain out of view of Nel-Peters until he had a chance to propose.

“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” said Tebow in an interview. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”

After the proposal, the couple and their friends and family had dinner. Their nearest and dearest made toasts and speeches, and Nel-Peter’s father requested everyone “make a circle” around the couple to pray for their happy life together.

To keep the proposal a secret from Nel-Peters, Tebow initially said the event was to present his father with a new truck. He even went as far as to borrow one from a dealership to give the story credibility.

During the engagement celebration, Nel-Peters quipped, “I’m sorry you didn’t get a new truck, but you’re getting a new daughter!”

Nel-Peters, 23, is a South African model who won the Miss Universe crown in 2017.

“She’s just perfect for me,” said Tebow. “I’m really blessed to have her by my side for the rest of my life.”
