An abandoned puppy is getting a new lease on life after being adopted by an amateur baseball team. The dog was left abandoned and crying in the parking lot of the Savannah Bananas.
Team President Jared Orton and his wife Kelsey have adopted her and plan on making her the team’s official bat dog.
“It was just meant to be that we’d have a team dog as part of our staff,” Orton said in a statement. “We took Daisy to the vet and aside from being hungry and dehydrated, she was in pretty good health.”
“We aren’t sure how big she’ll get, we think she’s an Australian Shepherd, so it’s hard to say if she’ll be able to pick up a bat or just coach first base,” Orton quipped, “but as she grows, she’ll be a fixture at the ballpark.”
This will be the Savannah Bananas first season at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, GA. The stadium was previously home to the Savannah Sand Gnats, a minor league affiliate team of the New York Mets.
The Savannah Bananas open their season on Thursday, June 2nd.
