The good news is that tickets for The Last Jedi are on sale now, too. But there’s just so much you can say about buying tickets early. The trailer, though, is a different matter.

Rian Johnson, the director of the new installment, was quick to point out that the trailer may give away some plot points.

This is a very unusual move by Disney. They keep plot secrets under wraps. The franchise has a tradition of hiding big moments in scripts from everyone, even the actors and crew. So why would they flip now and put out a trailer that seems to give so much away?

Could it be a ploy? Could these moments be false-leads?

Rey is definitely on Ahch-To, training with Luke Skywalker. Luke makes a reference to a power that terrifies him, one he has seen before. The trailer would lead you to believe it is either Rey, though it could also be Kylo Ren.

There is an appearance of the late Carrie Fisher. Kylo Ren, who killed Han Solo in the last episode, appears to be lining up to kill his mother, too.

The trailer ends with a quick scene of Rey being tortured by up by Supreme Leader Snoke.

Along the way, there are the expected effects. The trailer hints at lots of mechanical menace from the First Order. There are new creatures, including a penguin-like porg on the Falcon.

The Last Jedi is officially the 8th film in the long chronological narrative. It picks up where The Force Awakens left off. For the last four decades, many have assumed Luke Skywalker was the hero of the story. We’ll soon find out. This new trailer shows Luke in a different light. He lacks the confidence seen in the elder Obi wan Kenobi.

In just over two months, we’ll have all the answers.

This one is the first trailer, the teaser. Watch them both.
