The truth is stranger than fiction, as the old adage asserts. Just one short week after being crowned homecoming queen, Claire Jeffress went on to kick the winning field goal for her football team at Jeffress of Dawson High School. Dawson was tied with Pearland High before Jeffress took the field.

With just 1:08 left on regulation, the two Texas high schools were tied 35-35. Jeffress was called on to kick a 30 yard field goal, and she delivered.

Jeffress later spoke with the Pearland Journal. “I just wanted to do what I’ve always done and not think of it as any big deal,” she said. “My team had faith in me, and they were going to block for me, and the snap and the hold were going to be good, so I just had to do my job.”
“Claire is something – she just doesn’t get rattled,” Eric Wells, her coach, said. “There wasn’t even a question that she was going to kick it. Homecoming queen knocks it through, Dawson wins. You have to love that.”
