Raising kids is complicated. It seems that raising rich kids may not be any easier. A recent episode of the Dr. Phil show featured one rich kid who says she’s become a “peasant,” all becasue her allowance has been cut from $5,000 a month to $1,000. So what was Dr. Phil’s take on the spoiled rich kid’s cries of injustice?
This was Dr. Phil, after all. His response was predictable. “I want my mom to understand that I can’t live off $1,000 a month, and I grew up on a certain lifestyle. She can’t just take that away from me immediately,” Nicolette told Dr. Phil on Tuesday’s show.
Nicolette is 15. She lives in Beverly Hills, California. Her mother recently cut her back from $5,000 to $1,000. Nicolette has her own nanny, a driver, and even personal trainers.
“It’s the only life I’ve ever known,” she said.
Nina, the mother, also gave her credit cards, and regularly paid off the monthly totals–some of which were up to $10,000.
“Her daughter loves designer clothes and shopping on Rodeo Drive,” The Daily Mail notes, “and Nicolette proudly rattled off pieces from her designer bag collection, including a couple Chanel bags that cost about $5,000 a piece.”
“I keep [my her Céline Micro Luggage Tote Bag] on a chair because it’s just so special,” she said. “I literally think of it as my own child.”
Nina estimates that her daughter has spent upwards of $100,000 in the last year, alone.
“I know I am a spoiled brat, but I enjoy the lifestyle, you know? People are going to hate on me, but they wish they were me,” Nicolette said.
Now, though, she’s having to save some money. “I feel like a peasant. I can’t live like this anymore,” she said. “I’m always out of money. If you ask me, I think my mom should be giving me at least $2,500 a month just to cover my basic expenses.”
“My mom refers to me as a Beverly Hill brat. It’s true. I’m a brat — and I’m not going to change,” she said.
Nicolette expects to receive a $231,000 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen for her 16th birthday. “I’m a princess. I’m definitely worth the price tag,” she said.
Dr. Phil, of course, got into it with the mother.
“She needs a $6,000 purse? She must carry a lot of s**t,” Dr. Phil snapped.
As part of the experience, ” Dr. Phil sent Nicolette to feed the homeless at a shelter near Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles to show her another side of life.”
“It was a culture shock and I was scared at first,” she admitted.
So was she changed by the show? Not so much. She left the stage refusing to look into getting a job and refusing to accept her meager allowance.
