A family visiting the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha got the scare of their life when a silverback gorilla charged at their child and broke the glass to enclosure trying to attack them. [Scroll Down For Video]
The child, who seems to be doing their best Tarzan impression, likely had no idea that chest beating is a show of dominance among gorillas. You can clearly see this motion in the reflection of the glass.
The gorilla sees the boy and immediately charges full speed, striking the glass with a fist and his knee at the same time, cracking the thick glass enclosure. You can see several large cracks splintering out from the point of impact in the following screenshot:
In this still from the video you can see the terror on the family’s faces:
The family quickly fled the enclosure viewing room after the attack. In the description from the Youtube video the person filming says, “This is the untrimmed version of my video. Clearly you can see the gorilla wants at me. I in no way taunted him other than filming him.”
Here is a short video showing just the moment of the attack:
And here is a longer version showing the buildup to the attack:
The video has gained renewed interest following an incident at the Cincinnati Zoo in which a silverback gorilla named Harambe was shot and killed by zookeepers after a young boy fell into his enclosure. The event was partially captured on video.
