We love security cameras. Just think of how much incredibly weird behavior we missed before these things became so common. Thanks to the affordability of the technology means we see some stellar examples of the best humanity has to offer. This man is a prime example. He’s licking a doorbell. And it isn’t just a quick lick, either.

The incident was caught on film in the Rossi Rico neighborhood of Salinas, California. And it is genuinely weird. Reports suggest he was at it for several hours.

“A family called police when, to their shock, they found the footage on their home surveillance,” CBS writes. “The homeowners were out of town, but their children were inside. They didn’t wake up to the noise, but the families surveillance system alerts them when there’s movement by the front door.”

At 5:00 a.m., this sort of movement is likely to be a racoon, or a wandering neighborhood dog.

“I thought, boy there’s a lot of traffic,” homeowner Sylvia Dungan said. “I go, 5:00 in the morning? My son doesn’t get home till 6:00 a.m. well then who the heck is that?”

The doorbell licker gives no indication that he is aware that he is on camera.

CBS interviewed other neighbors to see if there had been any other odd behaviors. “I thought I’ve seen it all, but this takes the cake,” neighbor Alfred Santos told the reporters.

“Never have we seen anything like this,” neighbor Stephanie Rosario said.

The police were called, of course, and they noted that the man was also seen relieving himself in the front yard. Just how he relieved himself remains vague.

“Although neighbors and the homeowners were concerned, Dungan said at the end of the day no real harm was done,” CBS writes.

“You kind of laugh about it afterwards because technically he didn’t do anything,” Dungan said.

He did lick a doorbell. Doorbells, though not commonly pushed by those who live in the home, are often a favorite tool of visitors, many of who use their fingers to push them.

“This just kind of reinforces how important it is to have security within your home,” Dungan said.

The neighbors are resting easy, though, after Salinas PD identified the suspect. he is believed to be 33-year-old Roberto Daniel Arroyo.

Even though they have identified him, he remains at large. It might be time for residents to sanitize their doorbells.
