During a meeting with his nation’s senior secretaries, President Moon Jae-in stated that President Donald Trump deserves to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his role in ending the standoff between North and South Korea. “President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize,” said Moon. “What we need is only peace.”

On Friday, during the first inter-Korean summit in over a decade. Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, and Moon pledged to end the hostilities between the two nations. The pair also agreed to begin working toward the “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula.

During the meeting on Monday, Moon declared the need for a joint study to examine which economic projects the nations could resume while still respecting the international sanctions placed on North Korea.

“The study is set in motion the programs that are not subject to sanctions while exploring what the two Koreas could do when the sanctions are lifted in the future,” said Moon.

Moon made the comment about the Nobel Prize after the widow of late South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, Lee Hee-ho, suggested that Moon should win the award for his efforts as part of a congratulatory message, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

He responded by stating that Trump should receive the prize.

Trump reportedly spoke with Moon over the weekend, saying he was pleased that the leaders of the two Koreas reaffirmed during the summit their goal of complete denuclearization.

According to the White House, Moon and Trump had “emphasized that a peaceful and prosperous future for North Korea is contingent on its complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization.”

This isn’t the first time that Moon has praised Trump for his efforts in Korea. In January, Moon stated that Trump “deserves big credit for bringing about the inter-Korean talks,” adding, “It could be a resulting work of the US-led sanctions and pressure.”

Trump is currently preparing for a summit between himself and Kim, which he has suggested will occur in the next three to four weeks.
