On Saturday morning, Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., who performs under the name Nelly, was arrested after a woman accused him of raping her. The incident allegedly took place on Nelly’s tour bus in a parking lot behind a Walmart store, taking place after his show on Friday night. Police were notified at 3:45 am PT and took Nelly into custody.

As reported by USA Today, Nelly performed at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Washington, on Friday night, along with Florida Georgia Line.

The alleged rape occurred on the rapper’s tour bus, which was parked at an area Walmart about 20 minutes from the performance venue.

According to a statement released by local authorities, “a female called 911 to report that she was sexually assaulted by a male, who is known as the rapper ‘Nelly.’”

After police were notified of the incident, Nelly was taken into custody and booked into the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) jail located in Des Moines, Washington at 6:29 am local time.

Nelly was charged with second-degree rape, which indicated that either force was used or that the victim was unable to give consent at the time based on physical helplessness, mental incapacity, or a developmental disability.

FoxQ13 news reporter Brandi Kruse was able to capture an image of Nelly’s case information, though it has since been removed from the facility’s inmate roster.

According to The Washington Post, Nelly was released from custody “pending investigation.” The rap artist has denied the allegation through a statement issued by his lawyer, Scott Rosenblum.

Rosenblum wrote that the allegations are “completely fabricated” and “devoid of credibility. He also said the accusation “is motivated by greed and vindictiveness.”

“I am confident,” said Rosenblum, “on this scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges. Nelly is prepared to address and pursue all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation.”

Nelly, a top-selling hip-hop artist who is originally from St. Louis, is touring with Florida Georgia Line, a country music duo, and is scheduled to play at a venue in Ridgeland, Washington on Saturday at 7:00 pm local time. Live Nation, the event producer, has not commented yet on the status of the show.
