#Piegate. What would the Thanksgiving holiday be without a bit of political controversy. And if you can’t attack your relatives’ politics, perhaps you’d like to attack a politician’s cooking. That’s just what’s happened to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. She says she baked a pecan pie this week. The internet isn’t buying it.
“I don’t cook much these days, but managed this Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving at the family farm!” She wrote. The image, though, is what has caused the uproar. It is too perfect. There’s no background of festive holiday decor, or images of family eating the pie.
White House correspondent April Ryan cast doubt on the pie’s authenticity. She demanded more evidence of the pie.
“I am not trying to be funny but folks are already saying #piegate and #fakepie Show it to us on the table with folks eating it and a pic of you cooking it. I am getting the biggest laugh out of this. I am thankful for this laugh on Black Friday!” Ryan tweeted.
Cheryl Bolen with Bloomberg jumped in, too. “No table shot @AprilDRyan but my husband’s apple pie cooling on our stovetop yesterday.”
“Don’t worry @AprilDRyan because I’m nice I’ll bake one for you next week 😉 #RealPie #FakeNews,” Sanders shot back.
The image does look a bit too perfect. Yet a reverse image search has not shown a single copy of the offending image before Sanders posted it, so she very well may have some hidden talents (both cooking and photography).
