On Thursday, Dr. William R. Graham and Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, two electromagnetic pulse (EMP) experts, spoke to Congress warning them that Kim Jong-Un’s DPRK is capable of launching an EMP attack that could send the nation back to the stone age, which could ultimately lead to the deaths of 90 percent of the nation’s population within a year.

As reported by The Daily Wire, Graham, the chairman of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse Attack, and Vincent, the organization’s chief of staff, informed the Committee on Homeland Security that the nation could be facing a “doomsday scenario” based on the Obama administration’s underestimation of what North Korea’s capabilities.

During the discussion, Graham and Pry referred to a writing by Ambassador and former Director of the US Strategic Defense Initiative Henry Cooper regarding the North Korean threat. Cooper, who is considered an expert on space weapons and missile defense systems wrote: “[North Korea] could use its demonstrated satellite launcher to carry a nuclear weapon over the South Polar region and detonate it… over the United States to create a high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP).”

Cooper asserted that such a detonation could “shut down the US electric power grid for an indefinite period, leading to the death within a year of up to 90 percent of all Americans.”

Graham and Pry said that the US is facing an imminent threat from an EMP attack from North Korea, citing recent intelligence that suggest the country has significantly bolstered its military capabilities including going from as few as 6 A-Bombs six months ago to an arsenal that is currently estimated to consist of 60 nuclear weapons and the development of an H-bomb that is comparable to US two-stage thermonuclear weaponry.

While multiple solutions to the threat were presented, Graham and Pry made a clear recommendation to President Donald Trump, saying, “We recommend that the President declare that EMP or cyber-attacks that blackout or threaten to blackout the national electric grid constitute the use of weapons of mass destruction that justify preemptive and retaliatory responses by the United States using all possible means, including nuclear weapons.”
