On Thursday, dozens of photos were released showing the most recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test along with images of Kim Jong Un laughing as he gave the order to “fire with courage.” The photographs feature the larger, more advanced ICBM along with a mobile launcher that was produced in the country.
As reported by Fox News, the images were released by the regime’s daily newspaper, Rodong Sinmun. Along with the photos, the paper claimed the ICBM, the Hwasong-15, was capable of carrying a “super-heavy nuclear warhead” that could target anywhere on “the whole mainland of the U.S.”
Analysts began dissecting the photos, considering them a “gold mine for rocket experts.” The Hwasong-15 appears significantly larger than the Hwasong-14, which was testing by North Korea in July. The erector-launcher made by the North Koreans also suggest the regime won’t have to request the technology from friendly nations.
The mobile launcher also creates another point of concern, as officials will find it more challenging to detect and destroy the ICBM prior to launch.
Kim’s excitement over the launch is clearly visible in a photo showing him watching a monitor that supposedly displays flight data.
Hours after the launch, Kim stated that North Korea had “finally realized the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force.”
The Korean Central News Agency, a regime media source, also claimed that North Koreans were excited about the “successful test-fire” and allegedly held “dancing parties” to celebrate.
“The successful test-fire of the new-type ICBM Hwasong-15 has thrown all servicepersons and civilians of the DPRK into great joy and excitement,” KCNA said in a statement on Thursday. “Dancing parties were displayed by working people of various circles and youth and students in different parts of Pyongyang.”
The statement continued, “The participants danced to the tune of songs ‘Our Leader Loved by the People’ and ‘The Country of the People,’ extending the highest glory… to respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who registered a great success in… completing the state nuclear force.”
Some experts believe that the new ICBM may only be capable of reaching the West Coast of the US if a nuclear warhead was loaded. The test on Wednesday used a dummy warhead.
