Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has rapidly become the new laughing stock of the Democratic party. Before her election to the house, Ocasio-Cortez hit the media circuit and made gaff after gaff–so many that even liberal outlets felt compelled to fact check her claims. Now, though, she has dropped another bomb.
Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: "If we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of Congress — Uh, rather, all three chambers of government: the presidency, the Senate, and the House."

In an odd conference call with Justice Democrats, Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez spoke off the cuff to try to answer some of her questions. During that conversation, she showed that she wasn’t really sure how the government of the United States actually works.

“If we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of Congress — uh, rather, all three chambers of government: the presidency, the Senate, and the House…” Ocasio-Cortez said.
For those keeping score at home, there is also a judicial branch of government. To her credit, Ocasio-Cortez looked tired. This has been quite a week for her. After making some bold (and some argue radically unfunded) promises on the campaign trail, Ocasio-Cortez now has to follow through.
These moments, though, aren’t convincing her critics that she has actually thought as much about her platform as she claims.
After the gaff went viral, Ocasio-Cortez spoke up in her defense.
Maybe instead of Republicans drooling over every minute of footage of me in slow-mo, waiting to chop up word slips that I correct in real-tomd, they actually step up enough to make the argument they want to make:
that they don’t believe people deserve a right to healthcare. https://t.co/fMOijEa7tF

“Maybe instead of Republicans drooling over every minute of footage of me in slow-mo, waiting to chop up word slips that I correct in real-tomd [sic], they actually step up enough to make the argument they want to make: that they don’t believe people deserve a right to healthcare,” she wrote.
If you’re a strong progressive leader in your community and committed to getting money out of politics, I want you to join me in Congress. I want you to run.

The conversation with Justice Democrats had initially been designed as a way to drum up support for other young Demcratic hopefuls. “Ocasio-Cortez urged people to join Justice Democrats’ #OurTime campaign on Saturday to help them identify Democratic House incumbents that are ‘demographically and ideologically out-of-touch with their districts,’ the Daily Wire writes.

The Daily Wire points out the irony: “In other words, Ocasio-Cortez endorsed a campaign that says that people can’t represent those who are “demographically” different from them, which is the very definition of racism.”
Here’s one of the many highlight reels from her campaign. This one comes via The Washington Post.
