Teen Was Arrested on Spring Break. Then the Cop Got an Unexpected Letter From Her Mom

Police officers often hear negative and angry comments from those they serve and protect. Most of the time, they’re just doing their jobs. Probably one of the worst parts of the job is handling entitled  brats, and their parents, who think they are above the law. Well, one mother was actually thankful that her daughter was arrested.

On March 15 Sheriff Michael Adkinson Jr. was canvassing a popular spring break beach in Florida when he came upon what was clearly an underage girl holding a beer can.

Adkinson proceeded to do his job and arrested the unnamed girl for underage drinking. As you might imagine, most parents in these situations usually want the officer to issue a warning and avoid the embarrassment and stigma of an arrest.

But when the mother of this teenager heard the news, she was actually grateful. So much so, that she took it upon herself to post a letter to Adkinson’s Facebook page thanking him. That letter has now gone viral.

The letter said: “In this day, “cops” are getting a bad rap. So, I wanted to say “thank you”. Yesterday, my daughter was one of the thousands of spoiled spring breakers “living it up” on the beach. She got arrested for underage drinking. She was holding a can of beer on the beach.”

“A stupid move that I warned her about before she left, but I’m just her mother, so “in one ear and out the other”. The arrest scared the HELL out of her and I’m hoping she learned her lesson. The reason that I am sending this is that every officer that I talked to or that I could hear in the back ground talking to her was so nice! Firm, but nice.”

“I’m sure each one was rolling their eyes when my daughter said “Can you talk to my mom?”, but each and every officer was respectful and assured me she would get back to her house safely. For a mom hundreds of miles away, that was very reassuring. I know you all have to deal with this on a daily basis, which must be completely annoying and I’m very sorry my daughter added to your workload yesterday.”

The Panhandle beaches in Florida are notorious for their outrageous parties during spring break. There are plenty of drugs and alcohol for underage college students to consume.

Every underage teenager probably thinks the cops are simply trying to destroy their good time, but they’re wrong. These cops are trying to ensure that no one dies on their watch whether it’s from drunk driving or alcohol poisoning or a drug overdose. It’s nice to see a parent who understands this and who takes the time to thank an officer for doing his job – and  keeping her daughter safe.
