It has been revealed that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West paid a team of private firefighters to defend their house from the Woolsey wildfire that has been raging in California. On Friday, the blaze was headed toward their $60 million Hidden Hills property, but the private team helped keep it at bay.
The pair had been forced to evacuate the Calabasas, California, area on Friday, according to a report by the Daily Mail. However, Kim and Kanye chose to fund a group of private firefighters to defend their home from the encroaching fire.
Their mansion sits at the end of a cul-de-sac, with part of the property bordering a field. If the residence had caught fire, it would have created a domino effect that could have destroyed the entire neighborhood.
The private team of firefighters dug numerous ditches around Kim and Kanye’s property, creating a fire break that ultimately kept the blaze from reaching the couple’s home.
Neighbors later expressed their gratitude to the pair, as their decision to fund the firefighters may have actually saved the entire neighborhood.
At the People’s Choice Awards, Kim and her family accepted an award for Best Reality TV Show. During the acceptance speech, Kim dedicated the win to the brave men and women fighting the wildfires.
“As horrible as this has been, it’s been amazing to see the resilient spirit of everyone involved and the heroism of those risking their lives on the front lines,” Kim said during her speech.
“We would like to dedicate this win to all of the firefighters, the law enforcement, and first responders,” she added.
Kim also called on those in attendance and those watching at home to contribute to organizations who were helping during the crisis.
“So, anything that we can do to help the many organizations – no form of help is too small,” she said. “We must continue to reach out and help each other in these trying times.”
