Newly released surveillance video has shined a disturbing light on the recent kidnapping of 9 year old Carlie Trent by her uncle Gary Simpson in Rogersville, Tennessee. She was picked up from school by Simpson under false pretenses on May 4, 2016 and has not been seen since.
There are two surveillance videos, one from a Wal Mart and one from a Save-a-Lot store. The videos show Simpson purchasing a variety of items that paint a disturbing picture about where he might have taken Carlie.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, who is heading up the case, Simpson purchased:
Clothing for an adult male and young girl
Plush throw blankets
A camping chair
A child’s swimsuit
A package of girl’s underwear
Based on the items purchased it is thought that Simpson might have taken Carlie somewhere remote, possibly near a body of water. The TBI is asking land owners to check their properties and buildings where Simpson might be hiding Carlie.
Simpson was said to be obsessed with Carlie. “He had access to her every day, he was obsessed with her, he wanted her, and he wanted her all to himself,” James Trent, Carlie’s father says. “That’s a scary thing to think about.”
Police believe that Carlie might have great trust in her uncle due to the time they spent together. Simpson’s vehicle is described as a 2002 Dodge conversion van with a dark stripe down the middle, with light gold running boards.
