The trial of Amber Guyger, a former police officer found guilty of murder after she walked into the wrong apartment and shot and killed an unarmed man, was a high-profile case. Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but the headlines continue even after her trial has ended. A key witness in the trial was murdered days after he testified.

Joshua Brown, who was Botham Jean’s neighbor at the time of the crime, testified in court about what happened the night Jean was killed. This past Friday night, Brown himself was murdered. The shooting took place six miles from the apartment complex he used to live at, ABC News reported.

The Dallas Police Department issued a statement after the shooting. They detailed that Brown was found shot numerous times in the lower stomach in a parking lot of another apartment complex. There are currently no suspects, the department announced.

Accoridng to witnesses in the area of the shooting, four shots were heard at 10:37 p.m., with a silver four-door sedan seen speeding away from the parking lot Brown was found in.

“Upon arrival, officers were flagged down by several witnesses directing them to the complainant’s location,” the police report states. “The complainant was found lying on the ground in the apartment parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported the complainant to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.”

After Brown’s death, Dallas County prosecutor Jason Hermus commended him: “He bravely came forward to testify when others wouldn’t. If we had more people like him, we would have a better world.”

Brown was a key witness in the trial as he directly contradicted Guyger’s testimony that she demanded Jean put his hands in the air before she fired the two bullets that killed him, the Daily Mail reported.

Guyger argued she was overworked and exhausted, which resulted in her getting off on the wrong floor of her apartment complex, and leading to the shooting of Jean, who was eating ice cream on his couch while watching TV.
