Facing a mounting backlash from fans after praising President Donald Trump, Kanye West stood firm. He posted a picture showing him wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and criticized former President Barack Obama in another message. In one tweet, West stated, “You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him.”
“Obama was in office for eight years,” said West, “and nothing in Chicago changed.”
“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,” said West earlier on Wednesday. “We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”
Trump thanked West for his support, saying in a tweet, “Thank you Kanye, very cool!”
The President also tweeted, “MAGA!” in a separate response.
West was targeted by fans after a report from Ebro Darden, a Hot 97 radio host, said that West told him, “I love Donald Trump,” according to a report by CNN.
Darden also stated that West defended a previous tweet where he complimented Candace Owens, a conservative commentator.
Not long after that tweet, West wrote a follow-up message, saying, “my wife just called me and she wanted me to make this clear to everyone. I don’t agree with everything Trump does. I don’t agree 100% with anyone but myself.”
West also said, “I love Hillary (Clinton) too,” in an additional tweet where he asserted that he doesn’t “tell a Hillary supporter not to support Hillary,” a comment that appeared to be directed at fans who questioned his support of Trump.
