Hollywood elites have taken a stance against Trump since his inauguration. Meryl Streep, Kathy Griffin and even Arnold Schwarzenegger have spoken out against Trump, to name a few. This isn’t a big surprise as Hollywood is typically a liberal community, but one actress, Jessica Chastain, wants to know why Trump was called out and Harvey Weinstein wasn’t?
During a women’s event on Monday, Chastain, who was a guest speaker, used her time at the podium to point out Hollywood’s hypocrisy.
Chastain spoke on several topics but made an excellent point when she mentioned that President Trump was crucified for his self-proclaimed “locker room talk” but alleged sexual predators like Harvey Weinstein are ignored until someone has enough courage to divulge the misconduct.
“We rally against the presidential candidate who slants a narrative of his sexual assault as mere locker room talk, but at the same time we ignore the stories and warnings of sexual predators in our offices,” she said.
The 40-year-old pointed out the obvious, saying, “Oh we’re very quick to point the finger at others and address the issue with social action and fundraising. Yet there is a clear disconnect between how we practice what we preach in our industry.”
She concluded her speech by sharing some hard truths. “This is an industry rife with racism, sexism and homophobia,” adding, “It is so closely woven into the fabric of the business that we have become snow blind to the glaring injustices happening every day.”
Chastain has clearly given the topic some thought and had the guts to say what many in Hollywood would never admit. Hollywood celebrities believe that they can fix the world with their political agendas and causes, but when it comes down to it, they need to clean up their own messes before they can tell the rest of us what to believe.
