Here’s another heartwarming story courtesy of a home security camera. The footage shows a FedEx driver who stopped to pick up an American flag that had fallen to the ground. The US Marine veteran noticed the broken flagpole and stopped his truck, picked up the flag, folded it neatly, and stored it on the porch, away from the winds.

Mike King wasn’t even making a delivery at the house. The broken flagpole in Gail Cook’s front yard, though, was not something he could pass by.

“Today our flag pole broke with the high winds,” Cook posted on Facebook. “The FedEx driver saw this when he was driving by and stopped. He not only picked up the flag but folded it properly and put it away safely on our porch. Thanks!!! I hope he gets the recognition he deserves, I can’t thank him enough!”

Cook wanted to thank King personally, and was finally able to get in touch with him. King replied that he was “just doing what was right.”

“It’s the Marine way,” King added. “Would have done better justice for Lady glory if the wind wasn’t gusting at 50 lol … I couldn’t just drive by and do nothing.”

“He stopped and took time out of what (is) surely one of his busiest delivery weeks (after Cyber Monday) to pick up our flags and fold them and place them safely on a box that was on our porch,” Cook told reporters.

As it turns out, Cook is one of King’s regular stops, and has been for several years, though the two have never met.

“He did this not knowing anyone was watching — he just did it because it’s the right thing to do,” Cook said. “And we just really appreciate that he took the time to do that for us.”

“FedEx Ground is proud of the many contributions our team members and vendors make to our local communities every day,” FedEx said in a statement.

“We commend the patriotic actions of Mike King, a service provider employee who went above and beyond to properly care for a fallen American flag while on his route.”
