A sheriff’s office is reaching out to the public asking people not to call the authorities about a “body” that appears to be trapped under a blood-stained garage door. The realistic display is actually a Halloween decoration. But, the scene seems so authentic at a glance the sheriff’s department went as far as posting on Facebook that it isn’t real.

As reported by CBS News, local authorities in Greeneville, Tennessee, have been inundated with calls regarding the display, including numerous panicked calls to 911. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department posted on social media, letting the public know that the body isn’t real, in an effort to calm fears and end the calls.

The Facebook post, which includes a picture of the scene, stated, “Do NOT call 911 reporting a dead body.” It continues, “Instead, congratulate the homeowner on a great display.”

During an interview with CBS affiliate WJHL, Joseph Lovergive, the homeowner, said that his family adores Halloween and always puts up decorations early.

“I thought it looked so real and so fun and I hope people don’t take offense,” said Lovergive. He also stated that he never imagined that someone would call 911 over the display.

One of the phone calls received by local authorities was obtained by the news station.

“There’s a guy laying in his driveway with two big bloody handprints on side of the house,” said the caller. “It looks like he was dead. I don’t know. I didn’t stop. I just come on to work.”

When sheriff’s deputies first responded to the reported scene, they removed one of the boots from the “body,” which was made from stuffed clothing, to make sure it wasn’t real.

Johnny Riddle, another person who believed the body was real, also made a frantic 911 call after viewing the scene. “I thought it was somebody; I thought it was somebody laying up there on the driveway.”

Riddle stated he was relieved to find out it wasn’t real.

Many of Lovergive’s neighbors said they found the display funny. However, they were surprised it was put up more than a month before Halloween.

Lovergive said the scene is just one of many he is planning to have this season.
