While a company’s slogan can provide significant insight into the organization’s attitude, one man assumed it gave him a little more protection when he arrived at a gym on Sunday, promptly stripped bare, and began working out. Onlookers were stunned by his actions, and the police were called to address the strange situation.
The incident took place at a Planet Fitness in Plaistow, New Hampshire, according to a report by CBS News.
When police arrived on the scene, they found 34-year-old Eric Stagno “completely nude” and “on his knees in a yoga-type position.”
“He walked into the gym, stripped down at the door, then proceeded to walk back and forth a couple of times before settling in on the yoga mats,” said police Captain Brett Morgan.
Morgan added that witnesses who saw Stagno reported feeling “disgusted,” “sick,” and “unsafe.”
Stagno didn’t resist the law enforcement officers who approached him. However, he did take a moment to try and formulate a defense.
“The only statement that he made was that he thought it was a ‘judgment free zone’ – apparently referencing the chain’s slogan,” said Morgan.
Stagno was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with lewdness, indecent exposure, and disorderly conduct.
Later, Stagno was released on bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 21 regarding the incident.
