During both Hurricanes Irma and Harvey we have seen numerous animals abandoned or lost by their owners. One student, at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA, refused to allow her dog to become a victim of the storm.

Despite being somewhat inland, Statesboro was expected to be hit by as a high as a Category 1 hurricane.

Jessica Lewis decided that if she wanted to evacuate in time with her dog Luna, without skipping a class, then she was going to have to take some drastic measures and bring her dog to class. That meant asking her professor to grant a weird request.

Then, attached were in fact several photos of a cute dog:

Professor Joshua Kennedy wrote back to Jessica to let her know that he couldn’t be swayed to make this exception just because she claimed he was “cool” in her email, however, the fact that Luna was obviously a good girl was reason enough to allow her presence in his class.

And then we got the actual photos from class. As evidenced by the photos, Luna was in fact a very good college dog.

She made lots of new friends.

Jessica said, Luna “Just walked around and got pets from everyone and made friends.”

In the end, Jessica and Luna were able to successfully evacuate to Atlanta to escape the storm. Although the storm did change courses and ended up hitting Atlanta worse than Statesboro, but both made it through just fine.
