Losing a child is a life-altering experience for any parent. Firefighters saw this firsthand when a mother lost all four of her sons in a house fire while she was out. She had to be physically restrained by four or five firefighters when she returned and found the home engulfed in flames.
Tina Brazil, a Missouri mother of four, was out with her boyfriend Mike Andrews on Thursday night. When she came back home around 1 am, she found her house fully engulfed by a raging fire, according to the Daily Mail.
Firefighters were already on scene, and sadly, it was evident whoever was in the home would be dead. Brazil and Andrews both tried to get into the house even though firefighters said the structure was about to collapse. She and Andrews had to be physically restrained from entering the home.
“My children! My kids! My kids!” the mother of four was heard yelling as the house collapsed, The Kansas City Star reported.
All four of her sons, Levi Otto, four, Carson Otto, eight, Tyler Otto, 14, and Max Otto, five all died in the fire. The family’s two pets also perished inside the home.
An investigation into how the fire happened is underway. It is unclear if the home had working fire detectors in it. The fire was originally reported by neighbor Eddie Helt around 12:30 am. Helt stated he tried to enter the home to make sure nobody was inside but was pushed back by the flames.
“There was nothing you could do,” he said. Within minutes, firefighters approached the inferno home only to be pushed back by the intense flames as well.
Brazil remembered her children’s lives as who they were. “My babies. I don’t have any words to say how we are all feeling. . . .Tyler was my Tyler-man. Soccer and the biggest do-gooder heart I’ve ever seen. Cason bug was my smarty pants early talker, artist and avid reader,” she wrote.
“Monster Max popped off with some of the funniest things ever at the most random moments and was a crazy awesome dancer and had the biggest imagination I’ve ever seen. Levi was my little nugget who would say, “Mommy, I love you, Mommy,” at least 50 times a day.”
Brazil and Andrew will not be charged in the deaths of the children, Fox2Now reported.
