A story has emerged of a heroic taxi driver known only as “Chris” who tried to ram a van carrying the terrorists that were responsible for the deaths of seven people and injuring at least another 48 in an attack in central London at just after 10pm local time on Saturday night.

A rented van driven by three men ran down pedestrians of the city’s famed London Bridge with the occupants later going from bar to bar in the popular Borough Market and stabbing people with 12-inch hunting knives. Swift-acting Metropolitan Police shot and killed the three terrorists, wearing what turned out to be fake suicide vests, within eight minutes of the emergency services receiving their first call.

Chris the cab driver also tried his best to do his part to help, too. “I said to the guy in my cab I was going to try and hit him, I was going to ram him,” the driver said of the van in an interview with LBC Radio. “I spun the cab round, I was about to ram one of them, but he side-stepped and three police officers came running towards them with their batons drawn. I was shouting at everybody, just get away from the area, stay back, just run the other way. There were a good few hundred people out there.”

The cab driver said he first saw the men in the van driving at about 50 miles per hour down Borough High Street, deliberately trying to run people down. The quick-thinking driver turned 180 degrees to return and stop the men, but by this time they had already exited their vehicle and were attacking people with hunting knives after wedging the van between a lamppost and the steps of a building.

“A van came from London Bridge itself, went between the traffic light system and rammed it towards the steps. It knocked loads of people down,” the driver continued in the interview. “Then three men got out with long blades, 12 inches long and went randomly along Borough High Street stabbing people at random. I saw a young girl stabbed in the chest.”

“Then there were two police officers running towards him with their batons drawn, they didn’t know what was happening. There was a guy with a really long blade stabbing randomly people. I told people to turn around and run away. It sickened me to the pit of my stomach. An absolute animal.”
