The sentencing hearings for convicted pedophile doctor Larry Nassar have been a long parade of victims telling their stories. The scale of Nassar’s crimes is staggering. And one father who entrusted three of his daughters to Nassar’s care had listened long enough. He lunged at Nassar today in the courtroom.
“Randall Margraves stood at the podium as two of his daughters read their victim impact statements in Eaton County Court,” The Daily Mail writes, “and when the girls were done asked Judge Janice Cunningham if he could have five minutes alone in a room with ‘this demon’.”
The judge, of course, denied his request. Margraves then attempted to bargain. Instead of five minutes, he would take just one minute. But the judge denied this, too.
Margraves then lunged toward Nassar. He tried desperately to get the the man who had abused his daughters, but was met by bailiffs and Nassar’s legal counsel. The bailiffs in the Michigan courtroom were able to stop the attack.
“And it was, fittingly, Nassar’s defense attorney who shielded him from the angry father,” the Mail notes, “who appeared to be almost twice the size of former USA Gymnastics team doctor.”
“Give me one minute with that bastard,” Margraves said as he was pinned and handcuffed by Detective Andrea Munford, the MSU police officer who led the investigation into the Nassar investigation.
“I want that son of a b****.”
Margraves is the first of the victims’ parents to attempt assault. Many have read statements describing the impact of his actions. Others have sat in stunned silence, somewhat relieved that the doctor will live out the rest of his days in prison.
