On Tuesday, Hayden Williams was running a signup table for Turning Point USA, a conservative group, on the UC-Berkeley campus. The table had signage that discussed the damage of hoax hate crimes, an indirect reference to the Jussie Smollett case. An angry man accused Williams of being “racist,” and was caught on video punching Williams in the face.

Williams, who was assaulted while at the University of California-Berkeley campus, spoke out on Thursday night regarding the incident. The black eye he received after being violently attacked was still visible as he was interviewed by Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
While sitting at a recruitment table, Williams was speaking with a Berkeley student who was interested in the group.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, two men stormed up to the table and began behaving “erratically.” They also started swearing at Williams.
Williams said that the man who attacked him was angry over a sign on his table that read, “Hate crime hoaxes hurt real victims,” a reference to the case involving Smollett, who staged a homophobic and racist attack against himself.
“This person said we were promoting violence on campus and proceeded to take his aggression out on us,” said Williams when discussing his attacker.
Williams also asserted that he had witnesses who could attest that he did nothing to provoke the man who punched him. Once approached, he began filming the incident.
“Mother f***er. You racist little inbred b****. C***!” said the man who attacked Williams. The attacker also threatened to “shoot” Williams.
Williams went on to say that bystanders failed to act when the attacker approached him.
“Some students nearby tabling were laughing, even one guy was smiling while I was being attacked and trying to hand me his flyer as a joke,” he said.
“The idea is free speech has consequences…. which include you getting assaulted if they find you promoting ideas others don’t agree with.”
Campus police got involved after the incident and requested help from the public to identify the man who threw the punch.
Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk said the attack highlighted a double standard.
“Imagine if the attacker was wearing MAGA hat, would be national news!” said Kirk in a tweet. “This is the violent left!”
Several conservative politicians took notice of the incident.
“When a liberal like Jussie cries wolf and fakes an attack he receives unmatched coverage, sympathy & support creating a tsunami of attention,” said Don Trump Jr in a tweet. “When a conservative student literally gets punched in the face and it’s caught on video it barely makes a ripple.”
“This is abhorrent behavior against free speech on campus,” Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul wrote on Twitter. “No form of violence is acceptable!”
