An unnamed man is responsible for the death of two churchgoers after he pulled out a shotgun during communion service on Sunday morning. The shooter was stopped after one of the church’s security guards rushed in and shot the suspect numerous times, killing him. The shooter was not named, but the FBI stated he was “relatively transient with roots to this area.”

A video of the moment the shooting took place was on West Freeway Church of Christ’s YouTube page earlier in the day before it was placed on private viewing, CNN reported. In the video, the unnamed suspect is sitting on a pew towards the back of the church.
The suspect can be seen standing up with a shotgun in hand that he may have concealed under his coat. Within six seconds, the suspect looks at a man in the back and shoots him point blank.
As the person next to the victim begins to flee, the shooter strikes him with a bullet as well. Three church security members can be seen rushing into the frame, with one shooting the suspect an estimated three times. The suspect dropped immediately and was declared dead at the scene.
City Police Chief J.P. Bevering applauded the quick action taken by the security team of the church. “There was a security team inside the church and they eliminated the threat,” Bevering said.
The FBI agent in charge of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Matthew DeSarno, wouldn’t divulge much on the information of the shooter, other than the fact the suspect had been arrested numerous times for various illegal activities.
DeSarno did make one thing clear: The suspect was not on any kind of “watch list.” Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick acknowledged that the shooting could have been much worse. “Two of the parishioners who are volunteers on the security force drew their weapons and took out the killer immediately, saving untold number of lives.”
Due to recent law changes, Texans can bring their concealed handguns into houses of worship, which very well may have been the reason the suspect was taken down quickly with minimal casualties.
The motive for the shooting is currently unclear.
