Last year, the United States Treasury announced that it would be replacing Alexander Hamilton on our nation’s $10 bill with a historical female figure.
In a somewhat surprising move, the United States Treasury has announced that they will be removing Andrew Jackson from the $20 bill and replacing him with historical figure Harriet Tubman.
Key figures from the women’s voting rights movement will be added to the back of the bill.
Hamilton will be left on the $10 bill for the time being.
It is thought that the extremely popular blockbuster broadway show Hamilton (a musical based on the man’s life) helped to raise awareness about Alexander Hamilton and keep his place on the bill secure.
It will take approximately fourteen years before the change is made.
