According to reports, Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz has started vetting one of his fellow presidential candidates for his Vice Presidential slot.
The Weekly Standard released the following report earlier today:
Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign is vetting Carly Fiorina as a potential running mate, THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned.
According to a spokeswoman for Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO and one-time presidential candidate is being vetted by Cruz’s campaign.
“Normal stuff,” said Sarah Isgur Flores, who served as deputy campaign manager during Fiorina’s bid, when asked about the process. She added that Fiorina has met with members of the Cruz campaign and has given them financial disclosures and other documentation. Flores added that “no offers” have been made.
Of course, Cruz could be vetting several possible candidates in an effort to build a short list of candidates in the event that he gets the Republican nomination.
While Cruz is in second place in Republican primary delegates and cannot mathematically achieve enough delegates in the remaining races, it is thought that Cruz is likely the leader in delegates if the voting goes to a second round, or beyond thanks to his campaigns long term ground game which has resulted in numerous delegates that back Cruz being elected.
