An explosion rocked an outdoor festival in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, New York City. The New York Fire Department, NYPD, ATF, FBI, Homeland Security and medical personnel are responding to the scene.

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown, but some witnesses on social media are saying that the explosion seems to have originated from a trash container.

The NYPD has released a tweet saying that 25 people have been injured.

According to the Daily Mail, authorities are currently sweeping the area for any further explosive devices.

“There was a loud boom and our entire apartment shook,” said Neha Jain, 24, who lives on W. 23rd and Sixth Avenue. “All the pictures fell to the floor and then I heard people screaming,” according to NBC.

“It felt like a pipe bomb,” said Mercy College history professor told the NY Daily News. “It wasn’t huge. It was some sort of a bomb. It wasn’t a car backfiring.

“I got my family in a cab and high-tailed out of there.”

This comes on the same day after several different explosive devices were found on the route along a scheduled run in New Jersey that was meant to support members of the military.
