Shocking bodycam footage has been released, showing a police officer sprinting toward the source of gunfire in an attempt to capture a suspect as he fled the scene of a murder. The officer was nearby, handling a landlord-tenant dispute, when gunshots resonated through the air, leading the cop to spring into action, in a move reminiscent of The Wire.

After gunshots rang out on a street in Baltimore, an officer who was on a call nearby ran toward the source of the gunfire. The incident was captured by his body camera, showing him sprinting in the direction of the shots.
A woman can be heard screaming and, as the cop rounded a corner, he sees the armed suspect on the sidewalk.
“Put the gun down, put it down,” the officer shouts, aiming his sidearm in the direction of the suspect. “Get on the ground, now!”
The police officer manages to apprehend the suspect, taking him into custody.
A 29-year-old man was killed during the incident that caught the officer’s attention. An attempt was also made on the man’s grandfather.
The suspect, a 17-year-old male, states that he is innocent and was actually fleeing from the gunfire when he was confronted by the officer, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
Police refute the suspect’s claims, stating that 27 casings located at the scene matched his gun. A search of the suspect also uncovered a 9mm handgun with an empty magazine tucked into his waistband.
An attorney for the 17-year-old stated, “What you see on the video is somebody running. That’s not abnormal.”
“The officer says he has a gun, you can’t see anything in the video, but the officer says he had a gun. That doesn’t make him the shooter or even make him involved without more.”
A statement was released by the Baltimore Police Department, which read: “The officer didn’t hesitate at all to run right into danger. He was commended for his quick and decisive action that also can be categorized as life-saving.”
Any person bold enough to shoot and kill a man a half a block from a uniformed police officer undoubtedly poses a continued threat to public safety,” the statement continued. “Furthermore, the officer was able to take the suspect into custody without further incident. His performance was exemplary, and his decisiveness ended and immediate threat.”
