Ehud Arye Laniado, a billionaire diamond broker, suffered a heart attack while he was undergoing penis enlargement surgery on Saturday at an undisclosed private clinic. The complication arose after a substance was injected into the diamond expert’s penis during the procedure and it ultimately proved fatal. His company, Omega Diamonds, confirmed his passing.
Laniado, 65, had the procedure at a private clinic located on Avenue des Champs-Elysees in Paris, France, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
He ended up “suffering a heart attack” after a substance was injected into his penis during the enlargement surgery and did not survive.
Omega Diamonds released a statement after Laniado’s passing, saying, “Farewell to a visionary businessman. It is with great sadness that we confirm that our founder Ehud Arye Laniado has passed away.”
A friend of Laniado’s, who chose to remain anonymous, stated that Laniado was “always focused on his appearance and how others perceived him.”
“The Argentinian, that is what we used to call him at Omega Diamonds,” the friend added, “because he looked like a tango dancer.”
Laniado began his career in diamonds in Africa when he was in his early 20s.
“In Antwerp, it turned out that he did have some talents. Internationally, he was one of the biggest experts in valuing raw diamonds,” said a friend.
According to those close to Laniado, he only forgot about his short stature when he spoke with his accountant about the size of his bank accounts. He reportedly checked his statements several times a day.
Laniado was said to have owned the most expensive penthouse in all of Monaco, with an estimated worth of £30 million (approximately $39 million). Additionally, he had a house in Bel Air, an LA suburb, where he frequently entertained celebrities and models.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm the news that our founder, Ehud Arye Laniado passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019. He was 65 years old,” said a statement on Laniado’s website.
“After living an exceptional life Ehud will be brought back home to Israel as his final resting place. He will be dearly missed by us all.”
