One barber places all of his customers in the hot seat by forgoing scissors during haircuts and using fire instead. The process involves spraying a flammable liquid onto the person’s hair and using a comb to brush the person’s locks to manage the small blaze, a technique that was originally used to control lice.

Kadir Demirel, a 39-year-old barber at Kapsalon Istanbul in Holland, said he “learned this technique during my barber training in Turkey.”

“Traditionally, it was used as a way of burning away lice when there was no cure, and it was also used to style and smooth hair as there were no hair dryers at the time.”

“I use it to tame frizzy hair and burn away dead ends,” said Demirel, according to a report by the Daily Mail. “Healthy hair isn’t damaged by this technique.”

“It can also be used to remove static hair after a cut, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone trying it without proper training.”

Demirel insists that his “customers aren’t scared because they trust me and it’s not painful.”

He also added that he uses the technique on children, saying, “I have one customer who is seven years old and another who is eight.”

“I enjoy my work because it is so different,” Demirel added. “I also like to teach other barbers how to use this technique.”
