KTLA and news anchor Chris Burrous are under fire following on-air gaffe that has led thousands of people to accuse the station of “body shaming”. [Scroll Down For Video]
Liberte Chan, KTLA’s meteorologist, was delivering a live report when anchor Chris Burrous hands her a sweater from off stage. The exchange afterwards is just plain awkward.
‘What’s going on,’ Chan asks Burrous. ‘You want me to put this on? Why? Cause it’s cold?’
‘We’re getting a lot of emails,’ he replies as Liberte puts on the cardigan, looking confused. ‘There you go.’
What?’ Liberte says, clearly shocked. ‘Really? Okay.’
‘I look like, a librarian now,’ she then says, visibly unhappy with the change.
‘That works,’ Burrous jokes. ‘It’s a librarian going to a cocktail party.’
Then the tweets and emails started rolling in.
Burrous claims it was just some joking among coworkers and friends. Chan pointed out that the dress was just her backup attire as the outfit she had chosen didn’t work with the green screen.
In a video released on social media, Chan pointed out the fact that no one on the on-air staff was dressed appropriately as Burrous was wearing shorts and sneakers under the news desk and anchor Lynette Romero was wearing slipper socks instead of the usual high heels or flats.
Here’s a video showing both the report and the subsequent follow up in the newsroom.
